NBA Star Undergoes Successful Surgery
March 12, 2024
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) - Karl-Anthony Towns returned for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night after missing over a month due to a torn meniscus. Towns underwent successful surgery on March 12 and was expected to miss at least a month of the postseason.
The Timberwolves have gone 11-5 since Towns' injury, including a six-game winning streak. Towns is averaging 24.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season. His return is a significant boost to the Timberwolves' playoff hopes.
"It's great to be back," Towns said after the game. "I'm feeling good and I'm excited to be back on the court with my teammates."
The Timberwolves are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference with a 42-30 record. They are two games behind the sixth-place Los Angeles Clippers and one game ahead of the eighth-place Golden State Warriors.
Towns' return gives the Timberwolves a much-needed boost in the frontcourt. The team has been without starting center Rudy Gobert for the past two games due to a calf injury. Gobert is expected to miss at least another week.
The Timberwolves will face the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night. The game will be televised on ESPN.
