Brave Scots produce resolute display in Wembley stalemate
A fired-up Scotland side battled to a deserved 0-0 draw in an edgy intriguing renewal of their rivalry with England at a rain-soaked Wembley in their final Euro 2020 warm-up match.
The Scots, who had lost their last five games against their neighbours, produced a determined and disciplined performance to earn a creditable draw against an England side ranked fourth in the world.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke made three changes to the side that started the 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in midweek, with Kieran Tierney, Scott McTominay and Che Adams coming into the team.
England boss Gareth Southgate made six changes to the side that beat Austria 1-0 on Wednesday, with Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, Declan Rice, Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all starting.
The match was played in front of a crowd of 22,500 at Wembley, with Scotland fans making up around 3,000 of that number.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances.
England had the best chance of the half when Harry Kane was put through on goal by Sancho, but the Tottenham striker fired his shot wide.
Scotland had a good chance to take the lead just before half-time when Adams was played in by Tierney, but the Southampton striker shot straight at Pickford.
The second half was more open, with both sides creating more chances.
Scotland came close to taking the lead when Ryan Fraser's cross was met by Adams, but the striker's header was saved by Pickford.
England also had chances to win the game, with Kane and Raheem Sterling both going close.
But Scotland held on for a creditable draw, which will give them confidence ahead of their Euro 2020 opener against the Czech Republic on June 14.
