Powerful 7.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Southern California

Los Angeles, CA - A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 rocked buildings and cracked foundations in Southern California on Friday night. No injuries or deaths have been reported, but the quake caused significant damage to roads and buildings.

The earthquake struck at 8:19 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located near Ridgecrest, California. The quake was felt as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona. Aftershocks continue to rattle the area, with the largest measuring 5.4 magnitude.

Southern California is located in a seismically active region, and earthquakes are a common occurrence. However, this is the strongest earthquake to hit the area since a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in 1999.

Residents are being urged to stay indoors and avoid driving if possible. Emergency crews are assessing the damage and working to repair damaged infrastructure.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has activated its disaster response team and is coordinating with local authorities to provide assistance.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
